Founders Fund has led a $5 million purchase of governance tokens in Anvil, a decentralized finance protocol focused on digital-asset collateral. Pantera Capital, Theta Blockchain Ventures, Bullish, and Protoscale Capital participated in the purchase of ANVL tokens, according to an announcement on Monday.

Anvil told CoinDesk that the tokens came from its existing treasury rather than being newly issued. The protocol's governance token currently has a circulating supply of 80 billion tokens out of a total supply of 100 billion.

Software Integration and Use Case

The funding coincides with the rollout of new software designed to make Anvil's collateral protocol easier for businesses and financial institutions to integrate. Anvil Research Labs, a research and development company building enterprise tools for the protocol, launched a software development kit that allows companies to integrate Anvil without writing blockchain code.

Unlike conventional decentralized finance lenders that require users to take out loans and pay interest, Anvil uses collateral to guarantee financial commitments such as payments and credit. The core product functions as an onchain version of a letter of credit, where assets are reserved to guarantee payment and can be claimed if a commitment is not met.

Partners and Ecosystem

Built on Ethereum, Anvil has about $14 million in total value locked on its network, according to the protocol. Anvil Research Labs named Consensus, Bitcoin.com, and Flexa among partners already using or integrating its tooling. Bullish, the parent company of CoinDesk, is also working with Anvil to explore how the protocol could be used in its operations.
