Sparkassen Savings Banks Launch Crypto Trading Via App
Germany’s Sparkassen savings banks have launched cryptocurrency trading for retail customers through their existing banking application.

Germany’s Sparkassen savings banks launched a new feature allowing users at select institutions to trade five leading cryptocurrencies directly through their banking app on October 19, 2026, according to the Bitcoin Foundation.
The service supports Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), XRP, Solana ($SOL) and Polygon's POL token. Trading is provided by DekaBank, which also handles custody through a jointly managed omnibus wallet structure in partnership with Boerse Stuttgart Digital.

Service Structure and Costs
Customers do not need to open a conventional securities brokerage account to begin trading, though they must open a separate cryptocurrency account with DekaBank inside the Sparkasse app. The service is available to adult customers making their own investment decisions, with Sparkassen advisers withholding cryptocurrency investment advice.
DekaBank charges a fixed order fee of €0.99 per transaction, in addition to trading spreads. The bank provides a binding quoted price for a limited period before each trade allowing customers to review transactions.
Custody and Transfer Limitations
Users do not control the private keys securing their assets, as DekaBank holds them in a centralized custody arrangement. Furthermore, cryptocurrency withdrawals are restricted exclusively to wallet addresses belonging to certain approved crypto-asset service providers, preventing transfers to arbitrary personal wallets.
Participating savings banks decide individually when to introduce the service, following an earlier decision by the German Savings Banks and Giro Association. More than 230 institutions have reportedly expressed interest, with 30 to 40 additional banks expected to join each month.
