Lightning Labs Opens Wavelength for AI Bitcoin Payments
Lightning Labs has opened Wavelength to everyone on the Bitcoin mainnet, allowing AI agents to send and receive payments with an initial account limit of 300,000 satoshis.

Lightning Labs has opened Wavelength to everyone on the Bitcoin mainnet, giving autonomous AI agents a way to send and receive payments without operating a Lightning node or managing payment channels. The public rollout, announced on Oct. 23, follows an alpha release in July that required invitations for mainnet access.
Wallet Operations and Infrastructure
Instant Telegram notifications for large on-chain moves.
Wavelength connects agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and L402 payment protocol. The toolkit exposes wallet functions as tools that AI systems can call, supporting coding agents including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, and Gemini CLI. Wallet creation and unlocking remain outside the agent channel, keeping seed phrases and passwords away from the model.
The system uses an Ark-like system and Loop to handle coordination, settlement, and Lightning liquidity through atomic swaps. Receiving a Lightning transfer involves an atomic swap into Ark, while sending moves value from the wallet's Ark balance to a Lightning invoice. Users interact with standard BOLT 11 invoices, allowing the wallet to transact with existing Lightning applications.
Fees and Limits
For the public mainnet release, Lightning Labs has set an initial account limit of 300,000 satoshis and a 50,000-satoshi limit for each virtual transaction output. Lightning payments carry a 0.25% service charge for both sending and receiving, in addition to standard routing fees. Stablecoin support using Taproot Assets remains planned for future updates, according to the company.
